Travelling in times of Corona can be tedious – but it doesn't have to be! In this article, flight attendant Kim reveals exclusive tips for the current situation on board.
Travel Tips From Flight Attendant Kim
Servus! I'm Kim, 22 years old and was born and raised in Germany's Black Forest region. I have been working as a Junior Flight Attendant at Austrian Airlines since January 2017 and accompany the A320 Family, the Embraer 195 and the Boeing 767.
Flying is my absolute passion – even in times like these! For this reason, I would like to take you with me on my trip to Amman and give you a few recommendations and tips so that you are well-prepared for your next trip. In this blog post, I'll share my tips for the current situation on board.
Generally speaking, what has changed on board Austrian Airlines?
The Current Situation on Board Austrian Airlines in Times of COVID-19
Compared to the current situation at the airport, the situation on board has changed somewhat more. However, the same applies here: the FFP2-mask must be worn during the entire flight. We know that wearing a FFP2-mask for several hours can be tedious, but it offers significant protection for yourself and other passengers. In combination with our ventilation system, viruses have little chance of being spread. For this reason, we ask our passengers to adhere to the regulations. This way, nothing will stand in the way of a carefree journey.
What should passengers pay particular attention to before boarding?
Preparations Before Your Stay on Board Austrian Airlines
We experience time and again that passengers have last-minute questions about the current entry regulations of their destination. I strongly recommend that you always inform yourself in advance, so that you won't be negatively surprised upon arrival. In the worst case, entry may even be denied, if you don't have the necessary documents with you. But don't worry: if you inform yourself well enough in advance, you don't need to be concerned about such matters.

What has changed in terms of service on board Austrian Airlines?
Austrian Airlines Catering Service in Times of COVID-19
In March 2021, we launched our new catering service on European flights, Austrian Melangerie. This allows us to offer our customers an even wider range of choices, responding to the individual needs of all passengers. The new service offers you the opportunity to choose exactly what you desire at any given moment. Food and beverages will thus be offered on all our flights, as before. On long-haul flights, we have only made minor adaptations, which hardly differ from our service before COVID-19. During the meal, the FFP2-mask may of course be removed.
In conclusion, what would you like the passengers to know?
Final Tip for the Time on Board
At the moment, our job can also be quite demanding. Unfortunately, we keep having incidents where passengers do not follow the etiquette. We know ourselves that we are facing unfamiliar circumstances. Nevertheless, we all long for a care- and stress-free way of travelling. We should always be aware that all these measures are for our own protection, as well as for the protection of others. Respect and tolerance are therefore of the utmost importance in these times.
A brief summary of all tips
Preparation is the be-all and end-all of any journey. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, all passengers should inform themselves in detail about their destination and the local regulations before the flight.
On board Austrian Airlines, the following also applies: the FFP2-mask must be worn during the entire flight. During meals and drinks, however, it can of course be removed.
It is quite helpful, especially on long-haul flights, to have enough FFP2-masks with you. We recommend changing your mask every few hours.
