When is The Best Time to Visit Cologne?

Cologne is particularly beautiful in spring and autumn, when you can stroll along the Rhine promenade to the famous Kranhaus buildings or watch the hustle and bustle of the city from one of the numerous cafés on Aachener Street. But those who want to experience the real Cologne lifestyle should plan their trip during the carnival season - "Kölle alaaf!" Every year, the Cologne Carnival attracts hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world - and with good reason. The whole city is in a festive mood and everyone is happy about the bustling activity in the Cologne city centre. Naturally, costumes are a must!

Carnival is also being celebrated every year in Austria. Find out more in this article.

What Are The Top Attractions of Cologne?

The Cologne Cathedral is the biggest pride of the citizens and so you won't be able to miss it when you visit Cologne. Its history goes back to the fourth century and when you enter the cathedral you can even feel the historical significance. Another highlight is the observation deck. From above, you have got a wonderful view over the whole city. But be aware that the southern tower of the Cologne Cathedral has 533 steps and you should not be claustrophobic either.

It has been copied a thousand times, but here you can find the original: Hohenzollern Bridge with all its love locks.

Where Do You Get The Best View Over Cologne?

The Triangle Tower probably offers the best view over Cologne and the cathedral. If you prefer to enjoy the view with a "Kölsch" or cocktail in your hand, Cologne's highest beach bar, the SonnenscheinEtage, is the place to be.

Where Do You Eat Best in Cologne?

If you feel hungry after a walk through the beautiful old town, you should definitely visit a real Cologne brewery. Of course, you shouldn't miss the one or another Kölsch! Kölsch is the local beer and is usually being served by a "Köbes", a man in a blue apron.

Tip: If you don't want to get a refill, just put the beer mat on the glass.

Where Do You Celebrate Best in Cologne?

In summer, the locals like to go on a kiosk tour with good friends and enjoy their Kölsch outdoors. But you can turn night into day quite well on the student Zülpicher Street, with many cool restaurants and bars. If you want to move on after that, the Bootshaus, the eighth best club in the world, is the place to be. Famous DJs like David Guetta regularly play here. A little more unusual is the Odonien and for techno fans an absolute must!

Tip: The Shorty Shooter Bar! If you like shots, you are in good hands with the approximately 200 different and sometimes quite unusual shots.
