Top Destination in Greece: Crete

The largest of the Greek islands is located at the very heart of the Mediterranean. Crete’s big – even larger than the Austrian Province of Salzburg – and is a particularly popular destination amongst travellers looking for more than just a great beach holiday.

Highlights of Crete

→ Explore the historic sites of Knossos, Phaistos, Eleftherna, Falassarna or Aptera , and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of times long past.

→ Round off the day with a glass of good wine and freshly-caught fish at the Venetian port of Chania .

→ Walk through the island capital, Heraklion , and admire the impressive buildings in the old town.

→ Take a boat tour to the island of Gavdos or Chrissi Island , and feel just as if you’re in the Caribbean.

→ Wander through Samaria Gorge , with its extraordinary natural beauty , and enjoy the views out over the island.

This Cycladic Island is so much more than that! It also makes the perfect starting-out point for island-hopping.

Highlights of Mykonos

→ Stroll through the narrow alleyways of Mykonos town and have lunch in one of the tavernas.

→ Find the perfect viewing-point for watching the sun go down .

Top destination in Greece: Rhodes

You should all be absolutely sure not to miss out on the sun-kissed island of Rhodes ! The island was once home to the Colossus of Rhodes, a 33 metre-high bronze statue of sun god Helios. This was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World , until it was destroyed by an earthquake. All that remains of it today are two columns.

Highlights of Rhodes

→ Visit the Palace of the Grandmasters , dating back to the fourteenth century, and feel as if you’ve been transported back in time.

→ Explore the neighbouring island of Symi by boat directly from Rhodes, and enjoy the colourful houses there.

→ Feast on typically Greek delicacies in one of the numerous tavernas. The rule here usually is that the simpler a taverna looks, the better its cuisine.

→ Stroll through the tiny alleyways in the town of Lindos, with its white houses and never-ending view of the crystal-clear water.
