#1 UNIVERSAL ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Like the sound of strolling through the sets of your favourite films and learning vast amounts of background information while you’re about it? If so, then Orlando is the place for you – it has ten different amusement parks! Of these (perhaps unsurprisingly), our favourites include the Universal parks. If you buy what is called a “park-to-park” ticket, moreover, you can visit two of them on the same day. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll certainly find what you’re looking for here: you can travel from King’s Cross to Hogsmeade on the Hogwarts Express right there!

Opening times: all year round

Entrance prices: infants up to two years of age free of charge, children up to ten years of age $109, ten years or older $114

#2 EFTELING, THE NETHERLANDS

Whether you’re a child or an adult, your heart will miss a beat at Holland’s largest amusement park. The park at Efteling keeps its doors open to curious visitors all year-round. Whatever you do, be sure not to miss the wide range of different park shows with their fearless horse riders, take a walk through the Fairytale Forest, or set out on a boat tour of the Forbidden City, before paying a visit to the elves and trolls afterwards…

Opening times: all year round

Entrance prices: starting from €38 per person

Wondering how to get to Efteling? With Austrian Airlines, you can fly from Vienna to Amsterdam several times a day, from where it’s less than two hours by rental car or train to the park. Want to enjoy a stopover in Amsterdam? Not a problem! We’ve put together some of the Dutch capital’s must-see experiences for you here.

#3 LEGOLAND BILLUND, DENMARK

More than 60 million Lego bricks were used to build the thousands of models and statues at Legoland Billund in Denmark. The park is located right next to the first Lego factory, and is the original ‘Legoland Park’. Let yourself be carried off into the adventure of the little plastic bricks, or gaze in wonder at the big world in mini-format during a visit to Miniland. Get an adrenaline rush as you fly over a waterfall on a pirate ship in search of adventure – and fill your pockets with useful spare Lego parts on the way!

With Austrian Airlines, you can fly from Vienna to Copenhagen or Hamburg several times a day, from where it’s between two and three hours by rental car or train to Billund. Our tip: stick around a few days longer, and take a road trip through the rest of Denmark. You won’t regret it!

#4 GARDALAND, ITALY

Now we’ve seen Holland’s largest amusement park, it’s time for Italy’s biggest: ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Gardaland! The huge park is located almost directly on the banks of Lake Garda, and the region’s most popular holiday destination by far. Little dreamers will feel at home in Gardaland’s fantasy worlds such as the Magic Forest and the Doremifarm, while gutsy adrenaline junkies should also steel themselves and wonder – do you have what it takes to board the roller coaster with the vertical dive?

Opening times: seasonal, with high season April to September

Probably the best way to do Gardaland is to combine it with a trip to beautiful Lake Garda. Other cities perfectly located for day trips out from the park include Milan and Venice, meanwhile, and Austrian Airlines flies from Vienna to both north Italian cities several times a day. #Andiamo!

Disneyland Paris Austrian Airlines

#5 DISNEYLAND PARIS, FRANCE

Immerse yourself in the fabulous, magical world of Disney, meeting your favourite characters and heroes from the popular cartoons and animated films along the way. Take part in the breathtaking live shows, and let yourself be enchanted! Over 50 attractions for young and old await your arrival at Disneyland Paris!

There are also several Austrian Airlines connecting flights a day from Vienna to Paris. (There’s even a non-stop connection from the airport to the popular amusement park.) Blogger Sabrina visited Disneyland Paris with her two children recently, and she reports on her trip with Austrian Airlines here (in German).

#6 SIAM PARK, SPAIN

On Tenerife, you can explore Europe’s largest water park: Siam Park. When visiting, however, be prepared to feel as though you’ve been transported to Thailand the moment you get there: Siam Park was modelled on temples in the south-east Asian country. One thing we can guarantee: you and your family will have huge amounts of fun with the countless pools and slides the park offers! Siam Park has been named “World’s Best Water Park” on several occasions, by the way – and what better reason could we offer to spend a day there?

Austria offers countless opportunities for family fun! Fancy testing yourself to the limit on the roller coasters and ghost trains at the Wiener Prater, for example? Taking a round-the-world trip at the miniature world in Minimundus in Klagenfurt, perhaps? Or enjoying the exciting adventures and challenges at Area 47, Austria’s largest outdoor amusement park? Then get going! #CharmingAustria!
